How to find your flow in the modern world through Vedic Astrology

Mention Astrology to someone and you are likely to get any number of reactions, from being a true believer to thinking it’s absolute nonsense. If you asked me ten or more years ago, I would have been one of those thinking it is absolute nonsense! Like many people, I would glance at my horoscope whilst reading the newspaper or whilst waiting nervously for the Dentist to call my name, but never really thought it was anything other than entertainment. Afterall, how can a planet like Saturn, trillions of kilometres away, influence what I am doing right now?

As Sharon got more into Ayurvedic medicine, I started to become fascinated by how complete and accurate it was as a system of knowledge, especially given it is over 5,000 years old! How did they know about the intricate systems of the body without x-ray machines?

Eventually I became a student of Yoga, a sister science to Ayurveda and system of knowledge that is essentially about controlling the natural fluctuations of the mind. Again, I was fascinated about the fact that this knowledge is over 5,000 years old yet offers an effective and complete path towards mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. It is an ancient resilience program that is still very much relevant today! (Yes, Yoga is way more than lycra, non-slip mats and downward dogs!).

Jyotish, or Vedic Astrology as it is commonly known, is another vedic science this is many thousands of years old. I started with an online course many years ago, moved my way through a Diploma of Vedic Astrology, and eventually spent a magical period of time in India learning from the best Vedic Astrology masters.

Finding your flow

At The Juicy Effect, we are all about helping people to discover and step into their flow - where life feels like it is moving effortlessly in a direction that feels right. It’s rowing your boat gently down the stream rather than fighting against the current. Every one of us will have a different version of what flow feels like, because it’s not always about success or goals or money or possessions. It just feels right.

There is no shortage of people who will be quick to give advice about things like life purpose, strengths and personality characteristics. The thing is that if there is one thing that will interrupt your flow, it is relying on others to tell you how to get there. It is something that you need to discover for yourself, and this is where Vedic Astrology comes in.

How do I use Vedic Astrology?

Whilst most people tend to get a little caught up with the predictive aspects of Astrology (will I get married), the reality is that we all have free-will. Therefore for me, what matters most is helping people to understand their unconscious habits, tendencies and priorities that influence their moment-by-moment decisions. Vedic Astrology is a tool that helps with all these things, as well as highlighting likely challenges that will come our way.

In Western Psychology, the only way to understand someone’s personality is to get them to complete some sort of personality assessment, which involves self-completing a questionnaire. Jyotish, which means ‘flame’ in English, is about shining a light on aspects of our personality that we might not otherwise see. There are no questionnaires to answer, it is all based on a person’s energetic blueprint at their moment of birth.

Because my teacher in India was a clinical psychologist, University lecturer in Psychology, and second generation Astrologer, I was able to also draw from this amazing combination of knowledge. This is where the true power of Jyotish resides, helping people understand the things that are completely outside of their awareness. By discovering the likely blocks to experiencing more flow in life, you have an opportunity to do something about it.

For those who know about concept of The Hero’s Journey from the work of Joseph Campbell, we all face situations where we cross the threshold into the unknown. By understanding how we can make better choices and overcome tendencies that don’t serve us, we are in a better position to navigate unknown situations.

And this puts us in a wonderful position to experience flow more often.
